Ever thought twice about using an elevator, stairs or bathroom? Probably not, right?
Well, now think of challenges for people with disabilitites climbing stairs from ground to first floor:
We now see accessibility elements like elevators, ramps; visible, readable signage (multiple languages); proper lighting (natural and artificial); handrails; visually contrasting leading treads/nosing edges - were these always around? The answer is a resounding NO!
Many people had to fight to ensure that accommodations were made for people with disabilities to also access and use spaces and participate in activities that we all take for granted! One of those people is the Mother of the Disability Rights Movement
